Drawing the Line

Well, it's been officially over a month since my last post.  What a joke.  1 word to explain why i haven't posted on my blog, and that word is WORK.

The month of October was crazy busy, and when I say crazy, I mean working every evening and every weekend.  Trust me though, this will never happen again.  I have to draw the line when it comes to working too much.  I realize there are busy times of the year in all jobs, but this was ridiculous.

I am over the hump now, and we will see what the future brings.

Those of you that are on facebook, might find this picture funny, I thought it was.

Thought this Halloween joke was decent too, check it out.

So the St. Louis Cardinals are the World Series Champs eh ?  Good for them, talk about being resilient throughout the series.  There was at least 3 different times they were down to their last strike from LOSING the world series.  Each time they got the clutch hits, and what do you know, they won championship, good for them !!!!

Probably the thing I will remember the most about this year's baseball playoffs is what the Texas Rangers did the very first game of the MLB playoffs.   Let's rewind a little bit...

There was a tragic story from a Rangers baseball game earlier on in the year, when firefighter Shannon Stone and his young son went to watch Texas play.  Shannon's son's favorite player is CF Josh Hamilton that play for the Rangers.

During the game, Josh Hamilton caught a fly ball and turned around and threw it into the stands for the fans, Shannon Stone tried to catch the ball, fell over the railing, fell 20 feet and died.  All this while his son witnessed it.  Here is the video.

Now what the Rangers did before game one of the MLB playoffs was that they got Shannon Stone's wife and son to come out to the mound, and Shannon's son threw out the first pitch.  The ball was caught by Josh Hamilton.  I don't know if I am turning into a pussy, or because i am a new father, but seeing this puts everything into perspective.  Urty and I have been to ball games with my pa, and I don't know what I would have done if I would have witnessed this.

Speaking of Urty and I, found another old pic of us.

That's it for now folks !!

Ryder's Joke of the Day

A guy is down on his luck. He takes his last $500 and goes to Las Vegas.
Overnight, he has a fantastic run of luck. He stumbles out of the casino and finds a pay phone. He calls his wife and says, "Honey, pack your bags.I just won over a million dollars in Vegas. "
His wife say, "That's wonderful. What should I pack for... Europe, the Caribbean? "
He says, "I don't care, just be gone when I get home. "

On to the next one....

So the Melissa's race came and went...and all in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Leading up to this race, I hadn't trained near as much as i should have, but I am sure there was a lot of people there in the same boat as me.

My goal was to do the race in under 1 hour and 10 minutes.  I know it doesn't sound that lofty, but I am not in shape and I didn't know what to expect with this course.

The race started off okay, but at about the 1 km mark, the uphill decent started, and it didn't stop for about 3-4 km's.  This was rough, I actually had to walk some of the incline because they were just too much for me.  Now with going uphill so much, there was some downhill too which was a nice change.

I came across the finish line in 1 hour and 6 minutes.  Myself, Ang, Wimp, and Shanda all did the race.  Wimp and Shanda did it in 1 hour and 1 minute, and Ang and I did it in 1 hour and 6 minutes.

This was a great course and would love to do it again.

Best of all ?  The free beer at the finish line !

Here is a pic from the race.

------

I found some old photos, and snapped this one.  Here is a pic of Urty and I dressed up as Santa Claus in the tub many many years ago....

------

Here is a shot of the cake we got Ryder for his 1st birthday.

------

I am currently entrenched in 4 weeks of a very busy work schedule, so I hope to get my next blog out sooner.

------

From looking on the calendar, there at least one 10km race every weekend in October...so I wouldn't mind running in a couple if possible.  Let's see if I can break the 1 hour mark !

Ryders Joke of the Day.

There are three blondes stranded on an island. Suddenly a fairy appears and offers to grant each one of them one wish. The first blonde asks to be intelligent. Instantly, she is turned into brown haired woman and she swims off the island. The next one asks to be even more intelligent than the previous one. So, instantly she is turned into a black haired woman. The black haired woman builds a boat and sails off the island. The third blonde asks to become even more intelligent than the previous two. The fairy turns her into a man, and he walks across the bridge.

My Boy Turns 1

Wow, I can't believe it's been a year already.  It's funny, everyone that has kids told me to cherish them when you can, because they grow up so quickly.  That is so true.

Ryder turns 1 on Sunday.  It just seemed like yesterday when I was taking Ang to the hospital.
For me, getting married doesn't really change your life, but having a child sure does.  And I am not complaining one bit.

I could probably post a few hundred pics on my blog about my boy, but I am not going to, just a couple.

Did my perspective on life change when Ryder was born.  Everything I do, my work, my play time, revolves around my family and how to take care of them.  Before I was only looking out for myself, and then myself and Ang, but now it is myself, Ang, and Ryder, our family.

Everything is now about taking care of family.  Now getting pissed off if the Oilers don't make the playoffs or if the Riders play a crappy football game, doesn't really matter as much as it did before.

Now I worry about education for my boy, taking care of my boy, trying to be a role model for my boy, health benefits for my boy, etc.

Sometimes after a hard/stressful day of work, I just sit down and play with Ryder and everything goes away.

Sure there are some sleepless nights, and some days and nights where your patience is tested, but hey, that's being a parent.

This last year I have learned so much about life it's not even funny.

The best year of my life !!  Happy Birthday Ryder !!

Here is the boy the day we brought him home from the hospital.

I like heavy metal, so I am starting the boy early.

Here is a shot of dad feeding the boy....

And that leaves us with today....!!!!!

Here are some shots of my bathroom reno I did a few week back.  Thanks to ma, pa, and lindsay for their help.

Lazy Ass....

I am officially going though the laziest phase of the summer/fall.  In the last month I have only ran about once a week, and I officially haven't lifted any weights in a month.  I wasn't too worried about the weights part for now, but since I have the Melissa's 10k road race in a couple weeks, I really need to step up my cardio game.  The last time I ran was the 10k race I did a week and a half ago.  Not only that, but the LHL (Lutzie Hockey League) starts up in a week, and I have to be ready for that, haha.

Hopefully I can get in a good run on Wednesday, and at least a 10k run on the weekend.

----

Wow, 2 wins in a row for the Riders...who would have thought.  Hopefully they got some of their confidence back and we can string together a few more wins and jump into the playoffs.

This is about the best use I could find for the blackberry nowadays....

 ----

So I was cleaning Ryder's high chair last night and came across all this food.  The boy had me pegged for a sucker !!  I thought he was eating all his food but when realistically he was stashing it away.  Little dude is smarter than I thought !!

Congrats to Big D and Erin Boerma on their wedding this past weekend in Saskatoon.  It was a nice ceremony and reception, and it's always nice to get the Rat Pack together for some sociables.

Here is a pic of me and Rodida....

Had a family photo shoot with Fuller Edge photography last night.  Do yourselves a favor and book with these guys.  They did our wedding, and Ang's pregnancy pics.  Their work is amazing.  Check out their site.

Ryder's Joke of the Day.

A man and a woman who have never met before find themselves in the same sleeping carriage of a train. After the initial embarrassment, they both manage to get to sleep; the woman on the top bunk, the man on the lower. In the middle of the night the woman leans over and says, "I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm awfully cold and I was wondering if you could possibly pass me another blanket. "The man leans out and, with a glint in his eye, says, "I've got a better idea... let's pretend we're married. "Why not," giggles the woman. "Good," he replies. "Get your own damn blanket! "

The Crawl

So how was everyone's long weekend ?

Mine was busy with 'getting stuff done' around the house.

Things that got accomplished on the long weekend
  1. Ripped out a bush on my front lawn
  2. New tile backsplash in bathroom
  3. New floor tile in bathroom
  4. New wallpaper in bathroom
  5. Painted bathroom
I had a lot of help this weekend with my ma and pa, and sister helping me out.  Actually feels pretty good when you can get a lot accomplished.

I will have to take some pics and post them on here.  Haven't done that yet....

----

I also ran my first 10K race of the weekend.  I did it in 1 hour and 2 minutes, and 8 seconds.  I know it doesn't sound very good, but for my it is.  I just hate running in general, so finishing the race is an accomplishment for me.  Check out the video clip below...this is what I felt like after the race.

(note, the video is from the 1997 Ironman, you can start the clip at about the  55 second mark and check out the 2 gals doing the 'crab walk' to the finish line...)

Seriously, who doesn't enjoy a nice Slush Cat on a hot summer's day ?  But isn't it supposed to be a fun drink ?  Why would someone get an 'all coke' slush cat ?  That is not fun at all.  I will leave the name of this person out of it.

How about those 1-7 Riders beating the 7-1 Bombers ?  Nice work boys, keep it up for the Banjo Bowl this weekend coming up.

It was the boy's first labour day Rider game, so he was jacked for it !!

----

Took the boy to the outdoor water park at Eau Claire on Monday, he really enjoyed it.  Splashing around in the hot summer heat was a nice way to end off the weekend.

Ryder's Joke of the Day

A businessman was confused about a bill he had received, so he asked his secretary for some mathematical help. "If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off? " he asked her.
The secretary replied, "Everything but my earrings. "

New Patio Furniture

Greeting everyone, been over a week since my last blog....

I can start off by mentioning that I am doing my first race of the summer !  I signed up for the dino dash this weekend and will be doing the 10k race.  I am looking forward to it.  I have been able to get in a run a couple times a week to prepare for it, so I hope that will be enough.

----

I am also in the process of doing a reno in my basement bathroom.  I am replacing the wallpaper, mirror, tiled backsplash, and floor tile.  I have allready started the reno and hope to have everything completed by this sunday at the latest.  i will post some pics as I go.

----

This weekend marks the first time in many many years I will not be spending the labour day long weekend in Regina.  Usually the boys and I head up there for some fun, watch the Riders vs. the Bombers and then head back.  Strange how having a kid changes things !!!

----

My quest to become a pimp has been put on hold temporarily.  I was to write my pmp exam this past friday, but I put it off a few months.  I just wasn't able to get in the studying during the summer like I thought I was going to.  Anyway, at least now I can mentally prepare and write it soon.

----

Here's to hoping with the changes the Riders made will pay off and we can beat the 'hot' blue bombers this weekend.

----

Like my new patio furniture ?

Here is my boy dancing to the show Thomas and Friends.  I posted one similar to it on facebook.  Too funny.

Ryders joke of the day.

There were these three little old ladies sitting on a park bench minding their own business when suddenly a flasher jumped in front of them and exposed himself...the first old lady had a stroke...the second old lady had a stroke...but sadly the third old lady couldn't reach!!!

Vegas, to strip or not to strip.

Greetings folks, first blog in a while.  I was on a weeks worth of holidays and typically, I don't blog on holidays.
Speaking of my holidays, Ang and I met up with my bro and his wife Nic and went to Vegas for 4 days.
I have attached a lot of pics from the Vegas trip, and I will talk about the pro and cons of staying on or off the strip.

For this trip, we all stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel.  I have stayed here before and it is about a couple blocks off the strip.
Things I like about this hotel.  The best pool by far in Vegas.  I was at the pool 2 years ago, and it was the best pool then, but in the last 2 years they have added to it, making it the biggest pool in Vegas and the best.
I like the rock n roll atmosphere.  You walk around this place and all they play is rock n roll, none of the elevator music crap.  Plus they have a ton of memorabilia that you can look at and read about.
Some cons that people might have about this place....there is no food court, so you have to sit down for each meal which can be pricey.  Some times you just want to go to subway for a quick cheap lunch, but you can do it here.  You are looking at minimum $20 for every meal, let alone the expensive evening meals if you choose to do so.
And it is not on the strip, so you can't walk out the front door and be on the strip.  But, we took a cab from the Hard Rock to Planet Hollywood and it was 7 bucks.
Since I am a big pool guy, this outweighs the cons.  I could stay here every time I come to Vegas.
The Hard Rock Casino has been renovated and is 5 times the size it was before, but it is still one of the smallest casinos.  To me is doesn't matter though, I don't need a massive casino anyway.

Here are some pics from the room we stayed in at the Hard Rock.  We stayed in the new HRH towers.  So far, the best rooms I have stayed in in Vegas.

I liked the divider in the middle, a TV on each side, so you could watch TV in bed, or on the other side on the couch

Massive tub and separate shower....

And upon walking into the room, they had a giant KISS poster on the wall.  Each room had different rock n roll icons, mine just happened to have KISS

And another poster of KISS on the wall in our room, this was a cool shot

This is a shot from the lobby of the new HRH towers, there was a massive KISS banner.  Had to be almost 10 feet long and 4 feet high.

But if you went up close to the banner, you can see that the banner was made up of thousands of smaller KISS pictures

This one is for my buddy Shanewoo.  While we were at the Hard Rock, they had $2 Sailor Jerry drinks on the whole time we were there.

Not to mention the Sailor Jerry custom car parked out front.

Did i say that the Hard Rock had memorabilia ?  This was the coolest display in the whole hotel, one of my favorite bands, Slipknot.  Corey Taylor (#8), is the lead singer of slipknot, and they had some masks that he has worn over the years....such a cool display.

One night we went to a restaurant called Batista's hole in the wall.  I highly recommend checking this out when you go.  Great pasta, and all the wine you can drink, for free !!

Did I ever tell you that Vegas is full of Hot Babes ?  They are all over the place....

Here is one hot babe I hooked up with while in Sin City, but don't tell Ang !!!

That is about all I have for now.....

Ryders joke of the day

Husband: Honey, if I died, would you get remarried?
Wife: Well, I suppose so.
Husband: Would you and he sleep in the same bed?
Wife: I guess we would.
Husband: Would you make love to him?
Wife: He would be my husband then, dear.
Husband: Would you give him my golf clubs?
Wife: No... He's left handed
